What to Expect at Your First Massage
A kind, no-pressure walkthrough for first-timers
If you have never had a massage, it is completely normal to feel a little nervous. Wondering what to wear, what to say, or whether you will feel awkward is something almost everyone goes through. Here is what a first visit is really like, so you can arrive feeling at ease.
Before you start. We will talk for a few minutes about how you are feeling, any areas of tension, and anything we should avoid, such as injuries, sensitivities or health conditions. This is your time, so please tell us what you want and what you do not.
Your comfort comes first. You undress only to the level you are comfortable with and stay covered with a sheet or blankets the whole time. Only the area being worked on is uncovered. Our Introductory Massage is even done fully clothed, which is a great way to ease in.
During the session. You can talk or you can stay quiet. If the pressure is too light or too firm, just say so. Your therapist wants to know, and adjusting is part of the job. Slow, deep breaths help your muscles let go.
Afterward. Many people feel relaxed, a little sleepy, or lighter. Drinking water afterward is a good idea, and it helps to give yourself a calm few minutes before jumping back into your day.
A few small tips: arrive a few minutes early, skip a heavy meal right beforehand, and wear something comfortable. That is really all the preparation you need.
If you are ready to try, our 30-minute Introductory Massage is a gentle place to start. We would love to take care of you.
